The mission of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment. Affiliates of the Komen Foundation represent one of the nation’s largest private funding sources for breast health and breast cancer screening, education, treatment and support programs.

To date, the Lubbock Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has granted more than $1.2 million to help local non-profit agencies with projects related the education, treatment and screening of breast cancer.

The Lubbock Area Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is seeking proposals for innovative breast health/breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects as described in the Request for Proposal (RFP). Projects should be targeted to the medically under-served in the 16-county affiliate service area.

Our ability to fund these projects stems from the success of the Lubbock Race for the Cure, an annual event dedicated to the eradication of breast cancer as a life threatening disease. The 2005 Race was held on Saturday, October 8 on the Texas Tech University Campus in Lubbock, Texas. Last year close to $200,000 in grants was awarded. This year we expect even greater participation and expanded opportunities to fund education, screening and treatment programs for families of the South Plains.

The next funding period will be for April 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008. Please note that this is a change from previous funding periods.
